Take a long, hard look at the movie poster for this film
(to the left). This movie poster IS the plot of the
movie. It's about a cop who loses his wife and sulks
and cries and wants revenge.
Vin Disel plays Sean Vetter, an ace DEA cop. At the
start of the movie Sean and his partner Demetruis make the
biggest bust of their careers. They raid a club in
Mexico and take down the head of a major drug cartel, Meno
Lucero. Of course the club is a strip club and of
course we see boobs and of course some idiot brought their
5 year old son to the movie. I glared at him-- I
mean, not only is there a ton of violence and cursing in
the movie but now the kid is exposed to the
objectification of women. What is wrong with
people-- I think anyone who takes a 5 year old to a rated
R movie is a complete moron. Sorry for the rant but
it just drives me nuts. I'll take a breath.
Ok, so Sean gets his guy and they all celebrate. But
the celebrations will have to be cut short-- they nailed
one cartel leader only to face a new threat. A new
drug lord nicknamed "Diablo" is taking over all
of Lucero's old territory and cocaine plants (gee
you think the DEA would have shut down the coke
factories!). Diablo is ten times worse than Lucero--
I guess because he is ruthless-- they keep finding dead
drug dealers with his name carved in their backs.
Anyway, someone from Diablo's crew sneaks into Sean's
house and a firefight ensues resulting in the death of his
wife. After this tragedy Sean basically freaks out
and decides to take the law into his own hands-- which in
turn gets him in trouble with the force. Sean is so desperate
so ala "Red Dragon" and "Silence of the
Lambs" we approaches the imprisoned drug lord Menu
Lucero who gives him the advise: to catch a monster you
must become a monster. Sean goes deep into the
underworld of drug dealing as an attempt to make contact
with the infamous "Diablo".
It's a pretty general-- obsessed cop goes over the line--
story, except since Sean's wife was killed there is also a
lot of something you wouldn't expect-- Vin Diesel crying
and sniveling while watching sunsets on the beach
scenes. All in all the action was moderate but it
was a little too predictable and whiny to really be
considered a fast paced action flick worthy of a
theatergoer-- rent it if you must.
