Please
keep in mind that I haven't seen all of the Bond films, especially
the older ones, so don't send me angry emails when I say this is one
of the most entertaining Bond flicks I've seen so far.
In this
20th installment to the 007 series, the North Koreans are the
enemies who are allied with Gustav Graves, the villain with an
orbiting space mirror. What his mirror does is focus heat on
the Earth. Graves' operation is based at an ice building
(yes, a building made out of ice) in Iceland. And
naturally, Bond--who starts the film having to escape imprisonment
from the Koreans--comes to intrude upon his operation. There
are some interesting twists and turns along the way, so that's
all I'll reveal.
First of
all, the opening action sequence is spectacular and it's followed by
the usual music montage/credit sequence set to Madonna's "Die
Another Day," which is the best Bond theme song I've
heard up-to-date. It's a great, catchy, upbeat song that
really gets your blood pumping, as opposed to some other past Bond
films which charm you with a great action sequence and dampen the
mood with a mellow theme song.
The Bond
girls are hot. Pierce Brosnan is suave as ever and seems to
come up with a hilarious one-liner every second. Some of
the gadgets are really cool, like the much-discussed invisible car.
Of course, Bond surfing on a glacier was pretty cheesy, but I didn't
say the film was perfect. All in all...there was never
a dull moment.
