"Greenfingers" is a heartwarming comedy/drama in the
same vein as "Saving
Grace" and "Waking Ned Devine" as well as other
recent British comedies.
The basic plot centers around a group of hardened prisoners who become gardeners as their
rehabilitation work. They gradually really
get into learning about how to make plants and flowers grow.
Once it's found out how good
they have become, they are allowed to enter their
garden in a major British garden show.
The
movie stars Clive Owen who was really good in Croupier and the great Helen
Mirren. The acting
is very good all around and the story being
told is interesting and up-lifting. It has a lot of funny
lines and good humor to go
along with the sometimes more serious parts of the film.
I also have to add that it has some great songs being played by the likes of U2 and Bruce
Springsteen.
What
I really like about this movie is that it is heartwarming and touching without being over
sentimental or corny. It's not an emotional powerful
movie or loaded with slapstick humor, but the story and the way it lets you get to know each character
makes this a most entertaining movie.
Matter of fact, I rate this as one of the better movies I've seen all year.
