Spencer
John Olham is a good man--a patriot, a fine husband and a hell of an
engineer. It's the year 2079 and Spencer has created the
ultimate weapon in battle against alien forces. Then one day
he gets mistaken for an alien himself, supposedly a very lifelike
alien who bleeds, sweats and has fears. And supposedly, he has
a bomb implanted within his body, set to detonate when he meets
the Chancellor tonight. Now he has to run, run, run and do
some more running--as he tries to clear his good name.
Gary Sinise is one of my favorite actors, but his incredible knack
for character acting can't save this badly written sci-fi bore--just
like it couldn't save Brian DePalma's "Mission to Mars."
The sets are dark, murky and extremely ugly. Nothing like the
lively, eye-popping futuristic settings of "The Fifth
Element."
The plot is far from original. It's merely another story about
a case of mistaken identity--wow, intriguing! This movie takes
itself way too seriously, trying to smugly pass itself off as class-A
science-fiction.
Honestly, the final plot twist took me by surprise. I think
that's the only point in the film where my eyes were wide open,
anticipating what would happen next. Other than that, this is
a dreary, boring, unpleasant, clichéd, forgettable sci-fi thriller
that you should definitely avoid! This is the first movie of
2002-- way to kick off the new year!!!
