“Kingdom Come” is a movie about a family. A family that
loses someone they love, Bud Slocumb, well actually it's not that
clear cut. Whoopi
Goldberg, who plays the wife of the deceased, would like best
if the tombstone read: "mean and surly". In the beginning she doesn't seem sad that her husband died,
and looks like she wants the funeral to come and go quickly, to
just get on with things. By
the end, she is happy that the death of the man she loved brought
the entire family together, despite their differences.
Everyone in the family does love Bud Slocumb, but it seems
to take a while for them to express their true feelings. At first,
only the bad things are brought up, but towards the end they
remember the good things. Everyone
in this story also has their own fair share of problems too.
Most of which are resolved or they are trying to resolve.
The acting was really something in this movie, the best
going to LL Cool J. I
was pleasantly surprised by his performance.
The only other movies he had been in that I had seen were
“Toys”, and “Deep Blue Sea”.
He clearly bested those performances.
Whoopi Goldberg also does a great job, but that's no real
surprise, I've never seen her give a bad performance.
Anthony Anderson is also one of the bright spots. You might
remember him from “Romeo Must Die” or “Me, Myself, and
Irene”. He plays LL
Cool J's brother and almost steals the spotlight.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Toni Braxton are nice touches to
this film.
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from this movie, and
I came away enjoying it. It
didn't seem to be a waste of time nor money, and it's a nice
heartwarming tale about real people.
I give it 3.5 out of 4 pops.
I take off half a pop because of some korny dialogue at the
end.
