It might not look like it, but "Lilo and Stitch" is a
wonderful movie about family and unconditional love. Looks
can be deceiving. The story starts off with Stitch-- an
experimental new alien species-- being sentenced to
exile. Why? Well to put it quite simply, he is evil. He
was created to have one initiative and one initiative alone-- to destroy anything and everything possible (especially large
cities). Besides being destructive, Stitch is also extremely
intelligent, strong, and basically invulnerable to most weapons
(except water) and he soon escapes from captivity, steals and alien
cruiser, and takes a hyper-jump which lands him on Earth-- Hawaii
to be exact.
So, now we're in Hawaii-- enter Lilo and Nani. Lilo is about
6 years old and is a very strange little girl. None of the
other girls like her and she has trouble making friends. She
is very lonely. Nani is her older sister. Since there
parents died Nani has to work extremely hard to take care of her
little sister, Lilo. Lilo can be quite a handful though-- she
bites. Anyway, Lilo and Nani have a small broken family and
the worst part is that a social worker, Mr. Bubbles, is keeping a
close eye on them-- threatening to take Lilo away from Nani.
To make the family more functional Nani decides to get Lilo a
dog...of course the "dog" she picks in none other than
Stitch! Instead of helping the family Stitch just causes more
and more trouble for Lilo and Nani. Lilo loves Stitch but
everything he touches he destroys...including the
family.
The
movie sounds a little sappy and sad but it really is quite
entertaining and funny. Besides the whole story about family
there is also a side plot going on-- there are two aliens that are sent
to Earth to capture Stitch. They have to blend in and adapt
to life on Earth-- which isn't easy when you have one eye!
I
really enjoyed "Lilo and Stitch". The scenery and
music was wonderful....I mean, who doesn't love Hawaii? The
backgrounds were luscious and painted with delicate watercolors--
it really was beautiful to watch. The story was touching as
well as interesting and entertaining-- what can else can I
say? I really liked it! :)
