Should I bring the crackers, or will
you? The question is more than apt when planning a trip to see
"The Mexican." There's plenty of cheese to go around.
It's high quality cheese, though.
Strictly little gourmet shop on the corner, not the Buy N Save.
It's cheese of the intentional variety.
I had a hard time finding a genuine
moment. That's not the fault of the actors. It's more likely a
result of their superstardom, and the film revels in it.
Conversations run like simultaneous monologues. Still, they are
somehow enjoyable.
This is a film where you notice
colors and smiles, and you're OK accepting that Roberts and Pitt
are in love just because they say so.
The plot holds together well
enough. I found myself concentrating not so much on whether this
was a good movie, but on whether I should be enjoying it as much
as I was. You can almost see it being scripted. Just clever
enough, not an overdone effort.
This film is classic Hollywood.
Although its heart is pretend, it beats.

I didn't want to see this movie...I thought this was going to be a
cheesy romance or something...I was actually considering seeing
"3000 Miles to Graceland" instead (yes, despite the
horrible, horrible, reviews and Kevin Costner). That's how
much I didn't want to see this. But I went and I gotta say
that I really liked this film...I was totally surprised.
It was funny and totally kept my attention. It's got a
little romance, but it's dysfunctional and sparse so it's
bearable. Guys...does your girl wanna see a chick flick this
weekend? If so, take her to this...it will be enjoyable for
both of you (trust me boys!).
