This is good...unless you like
recycled crap, because that's all this is--
okay, there are one, maybe two
funny parts, but the vast majority is incredibly
korny.
Tommy Lee Jones used to know how to act, and I am sure Will
Smith did too...so
what happened to them? Bad writing. Here, let's take a comic
book and make a movie,
then we'll copy scenes to infinity. For example, every
time Will Smith communicates with
an alien, he acts the SAME way. You know...the
supposed-to-be-funny-but-not-because-its-been-done-to-oblivion
routine. Smith shouts the same
one-liners over and over again, I mean, geez,
is this supposed to make me laugh? I'm laughing, but not with
them. So the majority is bad
writing, but c'mon, the writing couldn't have been
that bad?!
The thing that really, really upset me is in the beginning when
the butt of the joke
is bulimics. It didn't make me laugh and it sure as heck
wasn't funny.
Another
thing I have never liked about how they produced these movies,
is that they made them
to comical. I would have loved it if they gave the movie
a more slick feel to it, kinda like "The Matrix".
Unless of course this
is how the comic book was, and in that case, I don't understand
why they needed to
make a movie out of it in the first place.
The
Tagline for this movie is "Same Planet, New Scum". Yes
that basically sums up
this film's story in a nutshell. Same movie, more dumb.
Skip
this movie, don't rent it when it comes out, and change the
channel when it comes
on FOX.

I didn't
expect much from this movie-- I knew right away it was going to be a
weak attempt, I mean, the film was only 88 minutes long. The only
reason I wanted to see this is because I thought maybe it would be a
pleasant waste of time-- which it was. Some of the movie was funny
but generally the plot was lacking and the alien creatures were nothing
special. I have two major complaints (the first of which is a
semi-spoiler so lookout): 1) Why is Patrick Warburton only in this film
for les than 1 minute? He could have made this movie really
funny...I think one of the funniest parts of the movie was his opening
scene. 2) The time extenders, there are 2. What are
they? Well, in the opening of the movie we are shown a short T.V.
episode that is like an old cheesy version of the X-Files (which in itself
is a pathetic device used to explain to the audience what is going on in
the movie since the plot and writing is so poor). Later on in the
movie they reshow the entire thing again....give me a break! The
second time extender is at the end of the movie-- the last few minutes
were obviously tagged onto the end to give it that extra length that it
so desperately needed. It's just so obvious that there wasn't
enough meat in this movie to make it last a decent 90 minutes or
more....

While watching
"Men in Black 2", I was thinking of two very important things:
(1) I really disliked the first film and thought it was completely
unfunny and boring, and (2) When can I see Michael Jackson? Well,
unfortunately, I didn't recognize Michael due to the fact that he played
an undercover intelligence officer (who else looks more like an alien
that the King of Pop???). And, "Men in Black 2" is worse
than the first one, covering all the same bases and exploring no new
territory, except how to make the audience feel completely dumbfounded
as to why we decided to watch such an exercise in nausea. Tommy
Lee Jones has sank to a new level of bad acting, and Will Smith seems
more like a millionaire rap star than a secret government agent.
Johnny Knoxville, who was hilarious in "Big
Trouble"
pops up, but offers little more than cheap humor and horrible sight
gags. Patrick Warburton is in this one also, and I can't help but
wonder if director Barry Sonnenfeld isn't falling into that groove where
he only wants to work with the same actors, because Warburton and
Knoxville were both in his last film, "Big
Trouble".
Hmmmmm, makes you wonder, eh? Anyway, this was another bad film,
and I have seen a lot of those lately, though this was not nearly as
menacing to the eyes and ears as "Dahmer".
Avoid this film and go see another summer blockbuster, like "Road
to Perdition" or "Halloween: Resurrection", though you'll
have to wait an extra week before they are released. Wait--did I
mention this film stinks?

If you're in the mood for a good summer popcorn
flick, then "Men in Black 2" will suit your needs. It's
funny, original and full of dazzling special effects. Just like
many sequels, this one tries hard to top its predecessor, with attempts
that are sometimes labored (I mean, do we really need a couple dozen
goofy aliens in every scene?). Barry Sonnenfeld went over-the-top,
with this relentless sequel that never takes a breath. But who
cares? It's tons of fun. Some of Will Smith's one-liners are
corny and Tommy Lee Jones doesn't have as significant a role, playing second
banana to Smith, but I wasn't too disappointed. Hell, we have
Rosario Dawson in the cast now. I've had the hots for her for
quite a while. Damn, is she hot or what!! And Lara Flynn
Boyle makes one sexy villain. One great advantage is we get to see
a lot more of Frank, the talking dog, and he's so hilarious! Does
"Men in Black 2" top the first one? I wouldn't
know, because I've seen the first one about 10 times and quite frankly,
I've grown tired of it. So I'm not gonna judge this as a sequel,
but as a film itself. And this is one awesome film! If
you're in the mood for a more intelligent sci-fi adventure, with a great
story, I suggest you see "Minority
Report".
But if you're simply in the mood for good entertainment, then "Men
in Black 2" is the one to see.
